Congress Introduces Bill To Make Washington D.C. A State

The House has passed a bill that will effectively make Washington D.C. the 51st state of the United States. If this bill is passed, the new name for Washington D.C. will be "Washington, Douglass Commonwealth".

If this bill was to pass the current Mayor of Washington D.C. Muriel Bowser would effectively become the Governor. Washington becoming a state keeps congress from intervening on local issues. Currently, Congress currently serves as a type of "say so" over D.C. and can intervene in some of the city’s laws and policies.

Personally, I believe this bill will not get passed by the Senate. Making D.C. a state will most likely give the Democrats additional House and Senate seats.
