President Trump Renames Department of Defense to the Department of War

 

President Trump signed an executive order to officially rename the Department of Defense to the Department of War. The executive order calls for using "Department of War" as a secondary title alongside "Department of Defense" and refers to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as the "Secretary of War."

 

But why is President Trump doing this? Well, it aligns with Trump’s and Pete Hegseth’s stated goal of restoring a "warrior ethos" to the military, emphasizing both offensive and defensive capabilities.

The executive order may face some legal hurdles before becoming official. The Department of Defense was established by Congress under the National Security Act of 1947, and a full renaming may require congressional approval.
